This flat and fast course starts out true to its word with a nice long flat-to-downhill section as you start north through a residential area along Ridgeview Road. Full and half marathon runners start together but split at mile 3.5. Some gentle rolling hills start at mile 9 and the residential section continues through the first half. Shortly after you cross the highway near the midpoint of the course, you’ll join a paved trail, which you’ll follow for most of the second half. The trail sends you north on an out-and-back with a turn-around at mile 18.5. A gentle incline starts around mile 21 and continues to the end. You’ll follow the trail south to mile 25, where you’ll turn west on 151st Street, pass Olathe South High School and cross the finish line at Garmin.

Route Description

Note: The Marathon and ½ Marathon runners will run the same course for the first 3.5 miles. The start is on Start on the east side of the median on Ridgeview Rd. (south of the Olathe South driveway), facing north. Run north on Ridgeview Rd. approximately one mile and turn left (west) at the traffic circle on E. Sheridan/Ridgeview. Continue west approximately one block to the traffic circle and turn right (north) on Ridgeview Rd. Continue north and turn left (west) on Loula St. toward Kansas Avenue. Turn right (north) on Kansas Avenue and continue north on Kansas Ave. across Santa Fe Street. Turn left (west) on Spruce Street (at this point the ½ Marathon runners will continue north on Kansas Ave.). Continue west on Spruce St. under the railroad tracks and turn right (north) on Iowa Street. Continue north on Iowa St. approximately 2 miles and turn left (west) on 119th Street. Run west on 119th St. approximately ½ mile and turn right (north) on Lone Elm Road. Run north on Lone Elm Rd. approximately one mile and turn right (east) on College Boulevard. Run east on College Blvd. approximately 2 miles and turn right (south) on Ridgeview Road. Run south on Ridgeview Rd. approximately ¾ mile and turn right (west) on Sunset Drive. Run west on Sunset Dr. and the road will curve to the south. Turn right (west) on the sidewalk along 119th Street. Run west on the sidewalk parallel to 119th Street and the course curves to the southwest. After crossing the Mill Creek Bridge, turn right onto the Mill Creek Trail access and follow the trail as it circles under the 119th Street/Northgate Road Bridge. After passing under the bridge, continue south on the running trail. Continue south on the running trail for approximately one mile to Harold Street (at this point the marathon route re-joins with the half marathon route). Turn left (east) on Harold Street and continue east on Harold St. for approximately ½ mile and turn right (south) on Nelson Road. Run south on Nelson Rd. for approximately ½ mile and turn left (northeast) onto Kansas City Road. Run northeast on Kansas City Road for approximately 1 mile and turn right (east) on Harold/127th Street, which crosses over Interstate 35 and becomes 127th Street. Continue east on 127th St., past Mur-Len Rd. and turn right (south) on Arapahoe Drive. Continue south on Arapahoe Dr. and turn left on Indian Creek Parkway. Run east on Indian Creek Pkwy., approximately 500 feet and turn right (south) on the Indian Creek Access Trail. Run southeast on the access trail approximately 500 feet and turn left (east) on the Indian Creek Trail (At this point, the Half-marathon runners will turn right onto the trail). Run east-northeast on the on the Indian Creek Trail, staying on the main trail, passing under Black Bob Rd. and passing under 127th Street. Immediately after passing under 127th Street, turn left (west), run up the trail; which curves to the south and meets the sidewalk. Turn left (east) onto the sidewalk and run east along 127th Street for approximately 500 feet and turn left (northeast) back onto the trail. Continue northeast, staying on the main trail for approximately 2 miles. Approximately 1 mile after passing under Pflumm Road, make a u-turn around the cone and timing mat. Run back on the same trail route to the south/southwest, passing under Pflumm Road, circling back under 127th Street and passing under Black Bob Rd. Approximately 3 miles after the turn-around, run past the access trail where runners first accessed the trail (at this point the marathon route re-joins the half-marathon route. Run south-southeast on the Indian Creek Trail, staying on the main trail, passing under 135th Street, passing under Mur Len Rd. and continuing parallel along Willow Drive. At College Way continue running south across the street and continue running south on Willow Drive. Turn left on Clairborne Road and run southeast across Sheridan Street. Turn left on Sunvale Drive and run east. Continue on Sunvale Drive as it curves to the north, turn right (east) on Stratford Road. Run east on Stratford Road and turn right (south) on to Winterbrooke Street. Run south on Winterbrooke Street and turn left (east) on Sheridan Bridge Lane. Run one block and turn right (south) on the paved running trail. Run south on the trail (parallel to Lindenwood Drive) for approximately ¾ mile and turn right (west) on the trail/sidewalk along 151st Street. Run west and turn right (north) at the first entrance into Olathe South High School parking lot. Run north in the driveway and into the parking lot. At the north-end of the parking lot turn left (west) around the island and follow the cones to the southwest. At the west end of the parking lot turn right (north) and then left (west) and continue west in the driveway; cross Ridgeview Road to the finish at Garmin.

This course lives up to its flat and fast reputation. The Kansas male 50+ half marathon record was set here in 2012, crushing the previous record by more than 3 minutes. The first few miles follow a flat-to-downhill section as you start north through a residential area along Ridgeview Road. Full and half marathon runners start together but split at mile 3. You will follow a tree-lined boulevard on the edge of a neighborhood for a few miles, and you’ll find a gentle hill starting at mile 5. Shortly after you cross the highway near mile 8, you’ll join a paved trail, which you’ll follow for most of the remaining course. Another gentle incline starts around mile 10 and continues to the end. You’ll follow the trail south to mile 12, where you’ll turn west on 151st Street, pass Olathe South High School and cross the finish line at Garmin.

With only gentle elevation changes, this course is a flat and fast one. You’ll start north through a residential area along Ridgeview Road. In mile 1, you’ll turn east on Sheridan Street, and then back south along a paved trail. A gentle incline starts in mile 2 and continues to the end. You’ll follow the trail south to 151st Street, where you’ll turn west, pass Olathe South High School and cross the finish line at Garmin.

Route Description

Start on the east side of the median on Ridgeview Rd. (south of the Olathe South driveway). Run north on Ridgeview Rd. two blocks and turn right (east) on Sheridan Bridge Road. Go 100 feet to Avalon Lane and turn right (south). Run one block to Meadow Lane and turn left (East). Run approximately ¼ mile and veer right onto Orleans Drive. Orleans Drive curves to the north and becomes Stagecoach Drive. Continue on Stagecoach Drive as it curves to the northwest, then west to Ridgeview Road. Turn right (north) on Ridgeview Road, run one block and turn right (east) on Sunvale Terrace. Run three blocks on Sunvale Terrace as it curves to the northeast, veer right (east) onto Sunvale Drive. Continue on Sunvale Drive as it curves to the north, turn right (east) on Stratford Road. Run east on Stratford Road and turn right (south) on to Winterbrooke Street. Run south on Winterbrooke Street and turn left (east) on Sheridan Bridge Lane. Run one block and turn right (south) on the paved running trail. Run south on the trail (parallel to Lindenwood Drive) for approximately ¾ mile and turn right (west) on the trail/sidewalk along 151st Street. Run west and turn right (north) at the first entrance into Olathe South High School parking lot. Run north in the driveway and into the parking lot. At the north-end of the parking lot turn left (west) around the island and follow the cones to the southwest. At the west end of the parking lot turn right (north) and then left (west) and continue west in the driveway; cross Ridgeview Road to the finish at Garmin.
