The 2014 Munchkin Marathon is designed to allow children, kindergarten through sixth grade, to complete a full 26.2-mile marathon by running or walking one segment at a time over 16 weeks. Participants complete the final 1.2 miles on race day, April 26.
Medals and More
Each participant will receive a race number, t-shirt, event sponsor goodie bag and a medal.
The Greater Kansas City YMCA has developed a training program that will help participants cover 26.2 total miles in 16 weeks at a pace that is fun and safe for their growing bodies. Participants will walk or run the first 25 miles in quarter-, half- or one-mile increments in the weeks before the race. They will use the honor system to track their mileage and run on safe routes designated by their parents, coaches or teachers. Then they will run the final 1.2 miles of the marathon on race day, Saturday, April 26.
