McKee, Cornell attend RECon retail/shopping center convention
Two members of the Chamber's EDC staff — Executive Vice President Tim McKee and Director of Business Retention and Expansion Brad Cornell — attended the International Council of Shopping Centers' Global Retail Real Estate Convention (RECon) in Las Vegas May 18 through 21. The four-day convention is one of the 10 largest conventions in North America and an opportunity to meet more than 1,300 shopping center owners and developers, retailers, brokers and financial institutions to discuss new and existing projects. The trip yielded some connections that will likely bear fruit for Olathe this year.

Kansas Rush Soccer national championship in town
You've likely encountered them this week in Olathe restaurants and shops...more than 1,600 soccer players from 110 teams from across the country, here to compete in the U.S. Youth Soccer Kansas State Cup Championships, which runs through June 6. Hosted by Kansas Rush Soccer Club, the tournament is at the Lone Elm Park soccer fields. The Chamber's CVB worked with Kansas Rush to bring the tournament to Olathe. The economic impact (players, coaches, families and fans spending money in Olathe hotels, restaurants, and businesses) is projected to be $2.2 million.

More national recognition for Olathe; Relocate America's top 100 places to live list
Relocate America has listed Olathe as among the 100 Top Places to Live in the United States. Relocate America is a Web site that offers relocating consumers a directory of over 6,000 national community profiles to research and review useful information about the local housing market, the culture of each community, activities and local businesses. Selection to the list is based on statistics and feedback of the people who live, work and play in the communities, including data about education, employment, economy, crime, parks, recreation and housing. Olathe was the only city in Kansas listed.

Americana Jubilee to celebrate community's rich diversity this weekend
Americana Jubilee, a celebration of Olathe's multicultural heritage, will take place Saturday, June 7, from 1 to 6 p.m. at Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop & Farm, 1200 N. Kansas City Rd. Organized by the City of Olathe, this free, family-friendly event will feature entertainment, arts, children's interactive activities, booths, and food (available for purchase). On stage at 4 p.m. will be Chubby Carrier and the Swamp Bayou Band. For more on activities, visit www.olatheks.org/parksrec/events/jubilee.
